Rovio has recently launched the fourth installment of the Angry Birds franchise, which is called “Angry Birds Space.” The developers have teamed up with Samsung and NASA to offer players an exceptional gameplay experience.

If you are an Angry Birds fan, then forget everything you learned about the game. The new “Angry Birds Space” introduces new rules, new environments, new bird and … superpowers.

Yes, the birdies are back, and now they have special powers that will help them get their stolen eggs back from the pigs. Only this time they will fight space pigs.

If you're asking yourselves how the birds got into space, then you should read further on. It appears that a wormhole suddenly opened into the sky while our birds were cuddling their precious eggs.

From within the wormhole, a weird-looking ice-made bird landed rather brutally right near our birds. It looks scared as if someone or something had been chasing her. It only takes a few seconds until the chaser reveals itself, or at least a part of it, as all we can see is a big metallic claw.

Then all turns to wild as the giant claw fetches all the birds' eggs and disappears into the wormhole back where it came from. Our ice bird is the first to realize what has just happened and throws itself into the wormhole with the help of a giant sling (sounds familiar).

It is hurriedly followed by the rest of the birds, which who are now enraged and looking fiercely. The good news is that while traveling through the wormhole our birds get superpowers.

It seems Rovio took some inspiration from “The Incredibles” movie and applied the same scenario to their game, only that our birds have a different kind of powers.

You can also get a glimpse of the kidnapper, which seems to be a spaceship that has two long metallic claws. The short trip through the wormhole lets the birds floating in space, while chasing the mysterious spaceship.

Unfortunately, our birds are met with the resistance of their archenemies, the pigs, who seemed to have been prepared for the battle to come.

The birdies will need to work together and put their newly gained superpowers to good use in order to overcome all the obstacles between them and the kidnapper.

This is where players come in and take control of the birds. There are 60 interstellar levels, but you also get hidden bonus levels, which raises the number of levels that you can play to about 90.

Samsung Galaxy family users will also get a special “Danger Zone” pack for free if they redeem it within the next three months. This separate pack offers 30 of the most difficult levels ever. In addition, Samsung Galaxy Note owners will get an exclusive bonus level.

“Angry Birds Space” comes with six new birds. Each bird has been gifted with a superpower and can do only one thing, but when mixed together they are extremely effective. The most common of the six is called Ca-Caw and it can travel between planets' gravity with ease.

Then there's the loudest one, suggestively called Ka-Boom. If you didn't guess it by now, this birdie goes boom when you touch it in flight.

The third new bird introduced by Rovio is Zzzt because it's very fast. This bird can pass through multiple obstacles with great speed. And it looks like Cyclops from “X-Men.”

The funniest of the six is in fact made of three little birdies called Bip Bap Bop. They start as one but split in three when they're touched in mid-flight. They are especially good against ice.

Bash is the biggest of the group and it looks fat and lazy. It can slowly pass through bigger obstacles in the game, and seems to be the most powerful.

Last but not least, the mysterious ice bird that came out from the wormhole, chased by the alien ship. It looks exactly like an ice cube and is called Froshh. This one is good when you need to freeze something, like big walls that cannot be demolished otherwise. It makes a great combo when used with Bip Bap Bop.

As you advance through levels, you will notice that depending on the situation you might need to throw your birds upwards or downwards. Only there is no such thing in this environment, where the only applicable rule is that of the zero gravity.

If you missed a shot, don't worry and try again as it can be tricky at first. However, it shouldn't take too long to master these shots using planets' gravity.

The game also has some tricky levels, where you will need to align your shots almost perfectly in order to advance further into the game.

I managed to get to level 20 without having to restart a level, but from this level up things are getting a bit more challenging, especially if you're one of those who want to get maximum points every level.

Overall, the game is much better designed than any other from the Angry Birds series. It's way more complex, more fun, and it has a pretty good story behind. On top of that, Rovio promised that free regular updates would be available as well.

“Angry Birds Space” is now available as a free download in the Google Play store and it should be compatible with all devices running Android 1.6 and up.

Based on our experience and for a smoother gameplay experience, we do not recommend installing the game on devices that run Android 2.0 and lower.
