A fisherman has landed the elusive blue mahi mahi on a trio to Baja California. Dave Maynard, featured above, was fishing off the coast of the Rancho de Costa resort.

Maynard took part in a fishing event, during which 154 dorados were reeled in on a four-day course.

The mahi mahi fish is called the dorado, or “the golden one” in Mexico. They are usually colored in anything from a greenish yellow to brilliant gold, Grind TV reports.

However, the blue dorado is a very rare find, according to Eric Brictson of Gordo Banks Pangas.

“Once they have been caught and placed in the fish box, their color patterns normally return the darker green color. [The top photo], though, does appear to show a dorado that is much bluer than you would normally see, though not unprecedented,” he comments.
