Jolie promotes “Unbroken,” talks cooking skills, getting the Chickenpox and directing Brad Pitt in their new film

Angelina Jolie will not talk about the Sony Hack and how it felt to hear that producer Scott Rudin, who was supposed to help her with her “Cleopatra” movie, called her a “minimally talented spoiled brat” in an email exchange with Sony Pictures co-chairwoman Amy Pascal.

The actress, who has her second directorial effort out in theaters now, “Unbroken,” sat down for an interview with The Today’s Al Roker, which marks her first live appearance since she got the Chickenpox and had to step back from all promotion for the film.

You will find a video of the exchange below.

No comment on the Sony Hack

Last month, producers for The Today Show came under serious fire from producer Harvey Weinstein after they canceled an interview with Amy Adams because she told them she would not be comfortable with answering a question about the Sony Hack (but that she would answer either way), even though her name came up just once in the leaked emails – unlike Angelina’s.

Though she had stayed in town just to be able to do this interview, she was told right before going on air that she would not be doing it in the end, with producers leaking word to the media afterwards that she had acted like a diva.

Producers for The Today clearly didn’t feel the same way when Angelina refused to answer the same question, because they didn’t cut her interview: they just edited out the moment when she said she would rather not comment.

Roker himself confirms asking her that question at the end of the interview. The ironical part is that, just some days before, the same show booted another actress from the air on the pretense that they were a “news show” and, as such, they had a duty to ask the question – and felt outraged when she told them that she wasn’t ok with being asked it.

Angelina gets candid

Other than that, the interview was just what we’ve already seen and heard from Jolie on this promo tour: she talked about her cooking skills, which are close to nonexistent, she talked about her friendship with Louis Zamperini, her personal hero whose life story she turned into the film “Unbroken,” she talked about getting the Chickenpox during the promo trail for the film, and she talked about directing her new husband Brad Pitt in a family drama, on what would have been their honeymoon.

As always, Jolie came across as honest and warm, and more importantly, as highly relatable. She’s touched and humbled that audiences chose to see her movie over any other during the Christmas extended weekend, and proud that she was able to do justice to such an amazing and inspiring story.
