The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly brings a lengthy interview with none other than Angelina Jolie, most likely to promote the DVD release of her directorial debut, “In the Land of Blood and Honey.” Among other things, she also talks about her next movie.

Because she’s so busy, Angelina hasn’t done a movie since “The Tourist” in 2010, voice work not included.

The Maleficent project for Disney will mark, if you will, her return to the silver screen as an actress, since, this year, she’s also made her debut as a director.

Announced a while back, not much is known about it, except for the fact that it’s meant as a different take on the classic Sleeping Beauty tale.

Speaking with EW, Angelina stresses that this is actually what it is – an attempt to present the story from the witch’s perspective as well, in what would be a first ever.

Shooting starts this summer and Jolie is expectedly scarce with details. She does say, though, that she’s having her horns fitted as we speak.

“I start it in June, and it’s a really great script. I’m having a lot of fun. I’ve already got my horns fitted. My kids are very happy. It’s not anti-princess, but it’s the first time they’re looking at this epic woman,” the stunning actress says.

She explains that Maleficent is neither the heroine nor the villain, but rather an interesting mix of both.

“I hope in the end you see a woman who is capable of being many things, and just because she protects herself and is aggressive, it doesn’t mean she can’t have other [warmer] qualities. You have to figure out the puzzle of what she is,” says Jolie.

“It sounds really crazy to say that there will be something that’s good for young girls in this, because it sounds like you’re saying they should be a villain. [Maleficent] is actually a great person. But she’s not perfect. She’s far from perfect,” she adds.

Asked whether the new Maleficent will be different from the 1959 classic animated film, Jolie is reserved: nothing is set in stone yet, the team is still “experimenting,” trying out new ideas.

Useless to say, if this project was hyped before, it’s twice so now.
