14 DAY TRIAL // Disney is upping the ante on the promo campaign for its latest film, a live-action retelling of the Maleficent story, billed in the new teaser as the greatest fictional villain to have ever lived. You can see that one in the video below.
“Maleficent” tells the story of the evil witch who cast a terrible curse on Aurora, aka Sleeping Beauty, jealous of her beauty and natural charms. It aims to show the character in a different light, to offer an explanation for her evilness, and thus make her more human.
Of course, the fact that Angelina Jolie plays her is one of the main reasons why this Disney production has been getting so much media attention from the get-go. Above is a banner poster for the film, released at the same time as the teaser, of Maleficent showing off her strong black wings.
Aurora (Elle Fanning) also makes an appearance in the teaser, but only as a voice questioning Maleficent about her wings, which, it turns out, she once had.
The film also stars Juno Temple and Sharlto Copley, and is directed by Robert Stromberg. Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, Angelina’s daughter, makes her acting debut as the young Aurora but, from what the actress was saying just a short while ago, her other kids also have brief cameos in the film.
So, if you know how they look, you know to look for them in the church scene, when the film drops in theaters on May 30. Until then, behold the beauty of this witch.
