That didn’t take long: Angelina Jolie, whose latest directorial effort, “Unbroken,” is coming out in theaters on Christmas, has pulled out of all promotional duties for it this past weekend, after coming down with the Chickenpox. According to one top body language expert, she’s lying about the reason she gave for going into hiding.

Jolie’s announcement (see the video below for it) came only 2 days after the Sony hack by the group Guardians Of Peace made public an email exchange between Sony co-chairwoman Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin, in which they mocked the actress for being a “minimally talented spoiled brat.”

To add insult to injury, “Unbroken” has been consistently snubbed by the awards so far, and reviews aren’t exactly stellar. So, apparently, Jolie has every good reason to run and hide.

Jolie lied about her health, all the signs are there

According to Patti Wood, top body language expert speaking to Radar Online, Angelina had every reason to want to get out of the spotlight if only for a week, but what she lacked was a proper excuse. She came up with this health problem, that she got Chickenpox, because no one would doubt someone saying they were sick.

However, Wood says, all the telltale signs for the lie are there, if you know where to look. And Wood apparently does.

First of all, she explains, there is no redness of the eyes in Angelina, with itchiness and redness of the eyes being a common symptom of Chickenpox. She doesn’t talk like she’s in pain either, though she would have to be if she were as sick as she claims to be. If anything, Jolie seems amused by the very things that are coming out of her mouth.

Wood also argues that Jolie’s body betrays her for a liar: when she begins the video by saying she wants to be completely honest, she makes a jerking motion with her head. According to the body language expert, that’s her body reacting to the lie. Plus, Wood adds, which person truly sick starts a message by insisting they are going to be completely honest? Under normal circumstance, such a message would begin by “I’m sorry.”

“At the end, Angelina said, ‘Such is life, there it is.’ That is not normal messaging for an apology. It is very lightly stated. It is not said with despair or sadness, or frustration,” Wood explains.

Jolie has had a very rough month

In all fairness, all conspiracy theories aside, Angelina did not have the best month ever: in addition to the award snubs and the so-so reviews, she’s also been putting in countless extra hours to promote the film. For someone as private as she is, doing so many interviews over such a short span and talking about her personal life must prove taxing.

However, to say that she would lie about her health just so she could get a one-week breather from all that, including the attention she’s been getting after the leak of the emails about her talent (or lack thereof), is probably an exaggeration.

Jolie worked hard to convince Universal to finance “Unbroken” and she worked even harder to see it made. To her, this is more than just a film, it’s a passion project, so it seems weird that she’d back out of promoting it just because she’s hit a rough patch. Especially when she knows that no one can bring more exposure to it than herself.
