14 DAY TRIAL // Over the weekend, actress Angelina Jolie was involved in a minor car crash but she was surely shaken after the vehicle she was riding in as a passenger crashed into a median on the highway and blew out two tires. Jolie herself is said to have been fine and paparazzi photographed her getting into another car minutes later.
TMZ reports that the LA Sheriff's Department was called on the scene and their version of the events is that the SUV hit the median in slippery conditions and the impact blew out two tires on the car. Eyewitnesses confirm this version of the events saying that at least one tire blew with a large explosion, leaving many to think that there was a collision with a second vehicle.
Paparazzi showed up at the scene in seconds, police took longer to arrive
After the accident, several paparazzi stormed the scene, hoping to catch a photo of the actress in distress but the tinted windows prevented them from achieving their goal. Someone from Angelina's camp eventually called the cops because they felt the paparazzi were “harassing” the “Unbroken” director.
The incident took place on Santa Monica Boulevard so it didn't take too long for paparazzi to swarm in, hoping for a shot at a bruised and crying Angelina. The police took longer to arrive so by the time officers got on the scene, Angelina had already left in a second car with her entourage.
Eyewitnesses claim Angelina suffered from whiplash
It turns out that Angelina wasn't with Brad Pitt or the children in the car, as she was coming back from a Screen Writer's Guild screening at around 7 o'clock in the evening. One witness is quoted as saying that “it was pretty bad – the tire exploded and it's amazing nothing worse happened to the car,” and later added that they “wouldn't be surprised if she has whiplash.”
A video from TMZ shows the actress fine as she makes the switch from the second car, avoiding eye contact with the paparazzi and also staying silent to their questions if she was OK.
Husband Brad Pitt was not present at the scene, as many thought he would arrive in the second car to “rescue” Angelina. The two were reported to have a blowout fight last week in Australia when they were in the country to promote her latest film “Unbroken.”
Several local publications photographed Brad and Angelina in what appeared to be an energetic discussion as both of them flayed their arms around a lot and seemed to be screaming at each other. Later, at the following red carpet event they attended, the couple seemed distant and largely spent time apart, posing only once for a group photo.
