Count on Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning to drum up interest in a movie by wearing themed accessories on the red carpet. Though Jolie’s presence in Paris for the “Maleficent” press call would have probably been enough to get attention onto the project, she went beyond the call of duty.

And so did Elle, who plays the older version of Princess Aurora / Sleeping Beauty in Disney’s upcoming live-action film, which comes out in theaters at the end of the month.

The Daily Mail has photos of the acting duo on the red carpet. Embedded at the end of this article you will find a video of Jolie’s interview, in which she talks about what attracted her to the story of Disney’s most famous villain, how involved she got in the production, and why her daughter Vivienne was chosen to play the young Aurora.

Back on the topic of fashion, Angelina looked stunning in her favorite shade of black, in a strapless Ralph Lauren peplum top and trousers, with simple makeup and oversized jewelry (earrings and ring). She wore Christian Louboutin shoes whose heels reminded of her character’s famous horns.

Elle wore a kaki dress that was both age- and occasion-appropriate, and the Charlotte Olympia Sleeping Princess shoes, which are now sold out. They feature a tiny Maleficent in the front, complete with a golden crown.

Despite some talk that investors are backing away from the film because they don’t think it will be too family-friendly and they want to cut their losses while they still can, interest in it has been rising since the first photo of Angelina in character was released.

In fact, Angelina can sell any movie she headlines without too much effort and, considering that she’s already been promoting “Maleficent” for a couple of months, this one should do well at the box office.

In most of her interviews, the stunning actress underlined that this is a “retelling” of the Sleeping Beauty story, in that it would attempt to offer a look at the events happening before Maleficent cursed Aurora, and thus explain her behavior.

She said that, while Maleficent was widely perceived as purely evil with no possibility of redemption, she (and Disney, obviously) believed there could be something that might at least explain her cruelty. So this is how the idea of looking at her past came to be.

“Maleficent” also stars Sharlto Copley and Juno Temple, and is directed by Robert Stromberg, who is making his directorial debut with it.
