Wedding took place in a small chapel, surrounded by family and friends

This was supposed to be the wedding of the century, and not just because it kept people guessing about the date, location and other such details for years, but because it would have seen two of the biggest stars of our times come together as a family, legally and in the eyes of the church. In typical Brangelina fashion, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were married without too much fuss.

Yes, it has happened. As the tabloids got too caught up in other celebrity dramas and glossies forgot to look for a Brangelina scoop, the two A-listers said their “I Do” in France last weekend.

In an industry in which celebrities continue to complain about how they can’t get any privacy or can’t get by a day without having some story written about them, Jolie and Pitt prove it can be done: they were married several days ago and no one had an inkling of it until their rep confirmed the news.

Even better, the spokesperson made the announcement long before rumor broke!

“Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie finally have made it official... they got married! It happened very under the radar. In fact... they did the deed last weekend in France, according to a spokesman for the couple,” TMZ reports.

The Associated Press was the first to break the news, as the tweet embedded below confirms. It also notes that the ceremony took place in a small chapel, and that only family and friends were invited. Angelina and Brad also applied for a marriage license in California.

Brad and Angelina became the industry’s hottest, most controversial and powerful couple in 2005, when his marriage to Jennifer Aniston fell apart. They had previously met on the set of the action film “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” where they played lovers, and though they denied becoming romantically involved at the time, rumor has it that Brad cheated on Jennifer with her.

They became engaged in the spring of 2012 and that was the first clue the world got as to how they planned to handle such important events in their life, because they used the same MO as with the wedding: first, Angelina was spotted with the engagement ring on her hand, but before the engagement rumors started to pick up, a rep had already confirmed the happy news.

Brad and Angelina have six children together, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne, and had previously joked that, if they were to marry by the kids’ standards, they would get hitched at Disneyland.

Congratulations are definitely in order for the happy couple! Keep an eye on this space for more details on this.
