Having grown up watching the crime series “Murder, She Wrote” with Angela Lansbury, I can’t but feel excited about the news that NBC is working on rebooting the series, adding to it a very modern twist.

Deadline reports that the network has commissioned a pilot, with Oscar winner Octavia Spencer as lead, coming to replace Lansbury. However, the iconic actress has also been asked to be a part of the new show, though in what capacity is still unknown.

“NBC is looking to revive one of the most successful series in TV history – Murder, She Wrote — with a brand new take from writer Alexandra Cunningham and producer David Janollari that has Oscar winner Octavia Spencer succeeding Angela Lansbury in the lead role of an astute amateur detective,” Deadline reports.

The modern twist on the cult show would make it a procedural more in the vein of “Bones” and “Fargo,” with Spencer playing a hotel administrator who pens her first mystery novel because she’s so fascinated by murder stories.

The fact that our culture is driven by sensationalism helps her to cultivate this fascination, which, in turn, makes her a solid author and reliable investigator with the police.

No release date or other details have been announced for it but, if you too are thrilled about the idea, keep an eye on this space.
