AdMob's Mobile Metrics Report shows iPhone and Android users download a similar number of apps

The latest AdMob Mobile Metrics Report shows some rather interesting research results when it comes to the behavior of mobile phone users, and one aspect that seems to be of interest is that Android and iPhone owners tend to download about the same number of applications each month. The report is focused on users of an iPhone, iPod touch, Android or webOS device, and also shows that, even if somehow similar, there are also a wide range of differences between the behaviors of these users.

For example, the report shows that only 21 percent of all Android users out there purchase at least one application each month, while the percentage rises to 24 when it comes to the webOS-based device owners, goes up to 35 for iPod touch owners, and reaches 50 percent for iPhone users. However, the largest number of applications downloaded each month goes to iPod touch, namely 12, which is 37 percent higher when compared to iPhone and Android users.

According to the new AdMob Mobile Metrics Report, iPod touch users tend to spend around 100 minutes each day using applications, which is 25 percent more than iPhone and Android users. Moreover, it seems that iPod touch users tend to be younger than other mobile device owners. 78 percent of them are below the age of 25, much more than 25 percent of iPhone users or the 24 percent of Android and webOS users.

Other findings of the report also include: - 73% of Android users are male, compared to 58% of webOS users, 57% of iPhone users and 54% iPod touch users. The iPhone, iPod touch and webOS have similar gender distributions, with just over half of the users on all devices being male. - 16% of iPhone users said they intend to purchase an iPad, compared to 11% of webOS users and only 6% of Android users. Approximately the same percentage of Android users were interested in purchasing the Amazon Kindle as were interested in purchasing the iPad. - Worldwide requests increased 32% month over month to 15.2 billion in January.

According to the report, 91 percent of iPhone users out there would recommend their device to other people, and the same applies to 88 percent of iPod touch users. When it comes to Android, the percentage is lowered to 84 percent, while for webOS devices it goes down to 69 percent. It seems that webOS users are 3.4 times likely not to recommend their handset when compared to iPhone users, the report also shows. The full report can be found here (PDF link).
