Those who like getting their news delivered by the Guardian and own a tablet should know that the dedicated slate app for the Android/Kindle ecosystem has been launched.

The iPad version launched back in October 2011, and since then it has gathered as much as 23,000 subscribers, so it was high time that Android users were given the same treatment.

So, from now on, Android tablet owners will be able to browse and read content from main sections of the Guardian and the Observer, plus the Weekend magazine (including Cultural Review, Travel and Family Sections).

The app also offers access to daily quick and cryptic crosswords, pictures, videos and interactive graphics. Written content and video can be accessed while offline as well, which is an advantage.

All editions from earlier months are available to be browsed and read in the archive. The app can be downloaded via the Google Play store or Amazon, and at the moment it comes free of charge. After the trail period expires, users will have to pay £11.99 / $20 / €14 for seven-day access or £9.99 / $16 / €12 for six.
