Android Wear is faced with crashing apps

The first Android Wear watches haven’t been upon us for a very long time, but the first problems have already showed their little, nasty faces.

According to a listing on the Android Open Source Project in the Issue Tracker section, some users have noticed a glitch in Android Wear, that causes apps to unexpectedly shut down without the user actually wanting them to.

Fitness apps that run in full screen mode are affected. Another problem is that the smartwatch is also attempting to use the data accumulated by the accelerometer in order to update the pedometer step count.

Nevertheless, if this is the case for you, don’t despair, as a workaround has been identified.

To get rid of the issue, you should abstain from starting your app as a full screen activity. Instead create a persistent notification in the context stream, then give the notification an action to go full screen.

The problem seems to arise when the watch picks up movement for some reason. The wearable is then prompted to add to the pedometer step count, which causes a new info card to appear on the home screen. This particular action disrupts the balance and closes the app.
