One thing that the Google Android operating system seems to have missed up until now is the presence of a document viewer that would work on the G1. Yet, now we learn that it has finally received one, in the form of the Office file editing app Documents To Go developed by DataViz for the mobile phone platform.

The company announced back in December 2008 that it intended to come to display with an Android version of its application, and now the Documents To Go is here, allowing users to easily open Microsoft Word and Excel files and attachments, while also offering them the possibility to edit and create documents, and even providing support for Office 2007 files.

Among the other features that the new application comes with we can also count support for rich formatting, including bold, italics, underline, font color, alignment, bullets and numbered lists, as well as tables, bookmarks and comments.

In addition, Documents To Go is also able to display footnotes, endnotes and track-changes, so users would have quite a capable application at their disposal. Moreover, the Excel part of the software solution comes with 111 functions, providing cell formatting, row and column preferences as well as auto-fit options, and more.

Another thing that should be mentioned is the integration with DataViz’s new RoadSync Beta, which is able to offer Exchange ActiveSync push email to users of the Android platform. G1 users will be able to find the RoadSync application already available as a free beta in the Android Market, providing them with support for both email and Exchange contacts.

The new Documents To Go has been priced at $29.99, yet, given the fact that it has just been launched, it is currently available for only $19.99. RoadSync will stop being a free app on May 31, though no pricing for it has been unveiled so far (the app is reported to cost $29.99 for PalmOS and $49.99 for S60).
