Android 5.1 hasn’t been out and about for too long and currently only Google’s own Nexus bunch is enjoying the perks of the latest version, but it appears that Motorola is once again going to be among the first manufacturers to provide the update to its flagships.

The second-gen Moto X got updated to Android 5.0 only a few weeks after the Nexus family received the treatment.

And now the same will happen with Android 5.1, as Motorola already unleashed a soak test and published a detailed change log of what we should be expecting to see with the new update.

Motorola tells you what you should be expecting from Android 5.1

As we’ve been telling you some days ago, Android 5.1 is one step closer to bringing a full functioning Silent Mode to your Lollipop device. So once the new update comes along, Moto X 2014 owners will be able to block interruptions until their next alarm.

On top of that, they will be allowed to enter a scheduled downtime early or alter notifications volume controls while media is playing.

The update introduces the possibility of adding icons to the volume settings panel to match those that show in the status bar.

Heads-up notifications add the option of dismissing such a notification, as now you can swipe it up to remove it from the screen. The notification will remain in the tray and you can come back to it later.

The Quick Settings are also seeing a few changes, so you now have the ability to quickly select different Wi-Fi access points or different paired Bluetooth devices with a new pull-down on each tile.

In the camera department, the update improves responsiveness of the viewfinder in the frontal camera and reduces noise in low-light shots.

A lot of bugs have been dealt with

There’s also a host of bug fixes which include solving matters related to Chrome crashes at launch, frequent restarts while watching Netflix, Wi-Fi not connecting after being idle all night, or Bluetooth discovery not being triggered when settings are refreshed (click the Press Release button to see the whole list).

The official OTA for the Android 5.1 update for the second-gen Moto X will probably start rolling out in the upcoming weeks, but we’ll make sure to let you know when that happens.
