We heard that Chinese company Meizu was working on an Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its premium line of smartphones ever since November, when Google rolled out the actual new version.

Well, it appears the company still has some work to do before it can produce the best update for owners of the Meizu MX4 and MX4 Pro.

But unlike other companies (see Samsung), the Chinese device maker is not leaving its fans to wonder when they will be receiving the update. Meizu has just posted on its official blog that the Android 5.0 update will arrive on the Meizu MX4 and MX4 Pro in March.

Meizu's own Lollipop version of Flyme OS coming out next month

Meizu’s own take on Android has materialized as Flyme OS since the beginning, so the next update is going to be a Lollipop-based version of it.

The open beta of the new Flyme OS is expected to make a debut in March, with a final version rolling out not so long after that.

So far, the MX4 and MX4 Pro have been running on Android 4.4. KitKat just like Meizu’s latest budget-oriented model, the Blue Charm.

As for the cheaper products coming out under the Meizu banner, we currently don’t have any information of when they will be receiving the Lollipop treatment, or whether we should expect this to be the case at all.

A reminder of what you get with the MX4 and MX4 Pro

The MX4 is a 5.4-inch device boasting 1920 x 1152 pixel resolution and an octa-core MediaTek processor under the hood. The MX4 Pro is a tad bit larger coming in with a more spacious 5.5-inch display with 1536 x 2560 pixel resolution and an octa-core Exynos 5430 processor running things underneath.

Not so long ago we told you the folks behind one of the most popular benchmarking apps out there, AnTuTu, have named the MX4 as the best Android smartphone of 2014. Its results in benchmark tests towered even over the Google Nexus 6 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

We expect the Lollipop update to bring in even more hype for the two models, so let’s keep our fingers crossed the update starts rolling out on schedule and won’t get delayed like in the case of some HTC One (M7) and (M8) models.
