The new build probably arrives as part of a soak test

As we were telling you last week, the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop update has finally started rolling out for the Galaxy Note 4 phablet.

Since this particular model and the Galaxy Note Edge are interconnected, as both were launched during the same event at IFA 2014 in Berlin, we were expecting the atypical Samsung phone to be the next in line, in terms of updates.

A new Samsung phone is getting Lollipop treatment

Now the folks over at You Mobile are alerting us that the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is currently receiving the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update in Australia. It could be a soak test, so only a few users located in the country might be given access to the goodness of the new build. The model being updated is SM-N915G.

Since the Galaxy Note Edge is basically identical in terms of hardware to the Galaxy Note 4, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the curvy phablet is getting Lollipop treatment too. However, the edged display probably posed a software challenge, so that’s why it took longer for Samsung to roll out the build for this particular model.

Like in the case of the Galaxy Note 4, the new build will bestow on your device a new look and feel, faster performance, lockscreen notifications, improved battery life and other specific-Lollipop enhancements you have been dying to try out on your model.

So if you’re rocking a Galaxy Note Edge, keep an eye on it for the notification that alerts you the new build has made it on your device.

If time passes and you get nothing, you could try the pro-active route and manually go to Settings > About Phone > Software update menu to check if Lollipop has arrived or not.

Other regions will probably get the update in February-March

However, keep in mind that if this is a soak test, not all devices in the country will be getting the notifications. Once Lollipop gets the green light, the new build will probably be rolled out in other territories across the globe.

It might take a while for it to do so, so if you’re located in the US or in Europe, you might still have some time to wait before you can update your Galaxy Note Edge to Lollipop.
