Good news for HTC One users in the United States, as the highly anticipated Android 4.4 KitKat update for their favorite devices is now awaiting certification at various carriers.

We reported earlier this weeks the KitKat upgrade might be available in Europe, but French carrier SFR backtracked on its initial statement and confirmed its engineers are now testing the update, which should arrive in the coming weeks.

That being said, HTC One owners in the United States might be first to receive the update next week, if everything goes according to plan.

“HTC One owners, final KitKat software has entered carrier labs for final testing and expect certification next week,” announced HTC USA.

For the time being, Android 4.4 KitKat for HTC One is awaiting certification at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless.

Even if all four will get carriers' approval next week, there's no telling the upgrade will go live at the same time at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless.

HTC is one of the first handset makers to offer an upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat operating system for one of its products, after Google and Motorola.

Samsung is working hard to bring some of its flagship smartphones to the same build, but the process might take months given the South Korean company's huge lineup of Galaxy devices that should get the update.

All in all, HTC is expected to offer the same KitKat update to a few more of its Android devices, including One mini and One max, which have been recently launched on the market.

However, both updates are now in the labs and will probably take a few more weeks to finish work and then possibly a few more to be certified and finally pushed to customers.

On a side note, Android 4.4 KitKat for DROID DNA is also awaiting certification at Verizon Wireless and it's won't come as a surprise if the update goes live at the same time as HTC One's. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.
