Sony is currently rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Xperia line of devices, including its Tablet Z iteration.

Like any software update, the new build is being rolled out based on location and carrier, so you might have to wait a while before you can see the update arrive on your device.

The new build comes with the usual performance optimizations and tweaks that Android 4.4 usually brings to the tablet. But on top of that, there’s a bunch of Sony-specific enhancements, too.

Users will probably notice the most striking change in the user interface. Sony says that those familiar with the PlayStation 4 will easily recognize the new design.

As new additions to it, you’ll notice a new launch animation, live wallpapers across the lock and home screen. Furthermore, there’s an overhauled Status Bar and Quick Settings, made more intuitive and with plenty of customization options.

The Status Bar and Quick Settings have been polished and cleaned up, to make it easier to deliver the right notifications.

On top of that, the update will provide Xperia Tablet Z users with feats like the battery Stamina mode and offers integration with the Sony Entertainment Network.

Last but not least, compatibility with Sony Xperia Themes and SmartWear experiences (Lifelog app and Smartband) is also provided.
