Mobile phone maker Motorola has started to deliver a new platform upgrade to select DROID MAXX, DROID Ultra, and DROID Mini owners out there, providing them with the possibility to enjoy the features and enhancements included in the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system version.

The new OS upgrade is arriving on said handsets as part of a soak test now, but it should not be too long before all those who have bought one of these phones receive it.

The handset vendor confirmed plans to release the update several weeks ago, but no specific info on when it was planned for deployment were provided at that time.

However, the update is now available for users who are members of the Motorola Feedback Network as part of said test rollout, which shows that it won’t be too long before all DROID MAXX, DROID Ultra, and DROID Mini owners receive it.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Motorola is usually pushing new updates out to a small number of users to test its deployment mechanism and to see whether users report any issues with the software following the update.

However, should all go according to plan, the software refresh is then released to more devices, something that usually happens in a couple of days after the soak test kicks off.

The Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is said to land on the aforementioned smartphones as a 285MB update, and brings along only a small set of improvements.

Following the installation of this OS upgrade, users will enjoy better camera performance, along with some fixes for visual voicemail. Moreover, they will also enjoy compatibility with the ISIS mobile payment system, a recent article on Android Central reads.

Motorola DROID MAXX, DROID Ultra, and DROID Mini users out there should also keep in mind that the Android 4.4.3 KitKat platform release won’t arrive on their phones.

Motorola did plan to push that platform upgrade out, but then the Android 4.4.4 OS version came out, and the mobile phone maker decided to merge the two and to deliver a single software update to its users.

As mentioned above, although available only for those who enrolled in the soak test for the time being, the Android 4.4.4 refresh should land on all DROID MAXX, DROID Ultra, and DROID Mini handsets in a matter of days, so keep an eye on this space for additional info on its arrival.
