Owners of Moto X and Moto G smartphones on the network of mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless in the United States should be able to enjoy the capabilities and new features included in the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for their phones in the near future, it seems.

Motorola and Verizon have already kicked off a soak test for the update, and the new software release is currently available for the owners of these two smartphones who have signed up for the testing phase.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the two companies are more than often rolling out new software updates to test groups and that they are making them available for all users soon after.

Depending on how the testing phase goes, the new firmware release could arrive on other smartphones in a matter of days or weeks.

As Android Police notes, the soak test (similar to a release candidate) allows Motorola to nail any bugs that might still be present in the new firmware, so as to make sure that they won’t affect the experience of its users.

The test builds are usually delivered to users who are part of the Motorola Feedback Network and who have already accepted to take part in the testing process.

Considering the fact that both Moto X and Moto G are already running under the KitKat operating system version, we can assume that users will observe only minimal changes in performance following the update.

According to a screenshot that emerged over at Android Police, the new update will provide users with said enhancements and fixes included in Android 4.4.4, as well as with better camera picture quality.

Moreover, the new firmware release will also bring along the ability to pause video recordings, courtesy of a pause/resume button present on the camera viewfinder, just as it did on some other devices recently.

On top of that, users should also receive a series of usability improvements in the phone dialer, said screenshot reveals.

There are also the security enhancements that Android 4.4.4 has already been pushed to devices out there with and which should make both Moto X and Moto G devices a bit more secure than before.

As mentioned above, it should not be too long before the soak test is concluded and Motorola and Verizon start pushing the new platform upgrade to more Moto X and Moto G users out there, so keep an eye on this space to learn the news.
