The software is currently undergoing carrier testing

Owners of HTC One smartphones out there eagerly awaiting for the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update to arrive on their devices might have to wait a bit longer before getting a taste of the new software.

French carrier SFR, which suggested yesterday that the software was already rolling out OTA, has updated its announcement to say that users will receive it only in mid-February.

Apparently, the OS upgrade is indeed ready for deployment from HTC’s part, and the wireless operator did receive it, but only for testing purposes, as a blog post from the company unveils.

As it usually happens, it will take a few weeks for the new firmware to be approved for deployment, and the middle of the next month appears to be the targeted timeframe for the official rollout.

SFR has received the aforementioned software on January 20, and chances are that it has been served to other wireless carriers as well.

HTC has yet to provide specific info on its plans for the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for its HTC One smartphones, after confirming that it plans on releasing it in early 2014.

However, HTC UK did say a few weeks back that the KitKat update would land on HTC One devices in the country at the end of January, without offering more info on the matter.

We can assume that the company was referring to unlocked, unbranded models, as they usually receive new firmware versions before other models do.

Carrier-branded handsets, however, might have to wait longer for the software to land, as additional testing and approvals are required, just as it is currently happening at SFR in France.

One way or the other, we’re clearly getting closer and closer to the official deployment of the Android 4.4.2 OS upgrade, which means that specific info on the matter should be provided soon. Keep an eye on this space to learn more on this.
