Owners of an LG G2 smartphone on the network of wireless carrier T-Mobile can now download and install the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system update on their devices over-the-air.

The new firmware release started arriving on handsets several days ago, when T-Mobile and LG made it available through the PC Utility app.

However, users can now grab and install it much easier than before, all straight from their LG G2 smartphones, the wireless carrier explains in a post on its support website.

“Beginning March 3, the G2 received a software update to Android KitKat 4.4.2/ D80120a. This update provides features and improvements,” T-Mobile notes on the aforementioned support web page.

In addition to bringing along the entire range of enhancements and new functionality that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform version was packed with, the new software version also delivers changes such as Auto Brightness, along with improvements to the overall user experience.

In order to get the new firmware release, users will have to manually check for it on their LG G2 devices, through heading to Settings > General > About phone > Update center > System updates. There, they should simply hit the Check now button to see if the new software is available for them.

Before proceeding with the upgrade, users should make sure that the battery inside the device has been charged at least at 50 percent. They should also make sure that the phone has at least 147 MB of memory available.

According to the mobile phone carrier, it also plans on kicking off an automatic rollout of the firmware as soon as March 6, while aiming at completing the deployment by March 25.

“This software update will be pushed to your phone between March 6 and March 25. Your phone will notify you when it is ready to update. After receiving the OTA notification, follow the onscreen prompts to complete the update,” the wireless carrier notes.

Provided that users don’t receive the notification, they can manually check on the availability of the new software through following the steps mentioned above.

After the installation process has been completed, users will see firmware version D80120a loaded on their mobile phones, which will confirm a successful upgrade to the Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform version.

To verify that, they should go to Menu > Settings > General > About phone > Software information, where the aforementioned software version should be listed.
