Owners of Samsung Galaxy S4 Active handsets on the network of wireless carrier AT&T can now download and install the Android 4.4.2 KitKat software update on their devices once again, after the platform’s deployment was halted about one month and a half ago.

AT&T has officially announced that the update is available for download once again, while also unveiling that it will arrive as a 67MB - 841MB download, depending on the OS flavor currently loaded on users’ phones.

“Effective June 6, 2014, a software update for the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active (SGH-i537) will be available to AT&T customers. This software package updates your phone to Android 4.4, and includes multiple improvements,” AT&T notes on its support website.

The wireless carrier also says that the new update comes with a series of copy and paste improvements in addition to bringing along the Android 4.4 OS upgrade and that users will also enjoy a series of call reliability improvements when installing it.

Moreover, they will find it easier to insert pictures and videos in email or messages, and will also be able to access the phone’s camera app from the lock screen.

Galaxy S4 Active owners will receive a notification when the new build is available for their devices, but they can also manually check for it, through going to Settings > About Phone > Software Update and hit the Check now button.

“Customers will receive an alert and be prompted to download the update, or have the option to initiate the update manually. When prompted, you can postpone the update up to 3 times, and 4 hours per occurrence,” AT&T explains.

“After the update has been postponed for the maximum allowable time, your device will automatically download and install the update.”

Following the update, users will see Android 4.4.2 KitKat loaded on their smartphones. The software build number will be bumped to KOT49H.I537UCUCNE3, while the Baseband version will be I537UCUCNN3, AT&T also explains.

Before proceeding with the update, users are advised to back up all data on their devices, so as to make sure that no important files are lost during the process. However, the update should not impact the user data in any way.

“Although there should be no impacts to settings or data, we recommend that you back up your media files to an SD card, a PC, or using a favorite application (from the Play store), prior to upgrading the software,” AT&T explains.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active users on AT&T’s network interested in learning more on the new update should head over to the wireless carrier’s support website for additional details.
