Google has started to roll out a software update to the owners of Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition, none other than the Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform version.

The new operating system iteration arrives on these devices not only with all the enhancements that it was already unveiled with, but also with some welcomed fixes for bugs that affected the device before.

One of these issues resulted in the inability to uninstall applications downloaded from the Google Play Store, as the process would result in crashes.

When trying to remove an application installed from the portal, users saw the entire UI of the smartphone restarting, and this reportedly happened with any software, regardless of the network the device was on.

This was one of the most serious bugs found to affect the Xperia Z Ultra GPE, though it was not the only one.

According to Android Central, another one prevented users from accessing the Security section in the smartphone’s settings. Users would see the Settings app crashing every time they attempted to go to the aforementioned Security tab.

Due to this problem, users were unable to perform a series of changes on their devices, including changing the screen lock, enabling data encryption, or the loading of applications that do not come from the Google Play store.

These issues were found to be not only extremely annoying, but also to pose serious security and usability risks, given that they affected all devices.

However, the Android 4.4.2 update for the smartphone, already rolling out to users, is destined to fix these issues, it seems.

The new firmware build arrives as a 444MB download, and also fixes a problem with Google Now voice commands (though this is said to have been only a randomly appearing issue).

The OS upgrade should be delivered to all owners of the Xperia Z Ultra GPE in a matter of days, so you won’t have to wait too long for it to arrive. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
