Today, Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has kicked off the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean platform upgrade to the owners of Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra smartphones out there.

Users should already start seeing the new OS flavor emerging on their devices, though the availability of the update will vary depending on market and carrier.

According to Sony, users will enjoy a nice range of enhancements as part of the new firmware, including the usual set of improvements that Android 4.3 was unveiled with, along with a set of its own new features.

Thus, they will be provided with all the benefits of Project Butter, which usually means better performance and user interface optimizations, as well as with a smoother graphical experience.

Additionally, the update extends the availability of Sony’s Smart Social Camera to Xperia Z Ultra, after being available exclusively on Xperia Z1 for the past few months.

The application, Sony’s signature camera experience, will provide users with the possibility to download, access, and enjoy Xperia camera apps directly from within the viewfinder.

At the same time, the new build arrives on Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra devices with new versions of apps in Sony’s native software portfolio.

“We’re also uplifting Sony’s entire native app portfolio to the latest versions – bringing tweaked / improved / current experiences for (to name but a few): Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, Sony Select,” Sony notes in a blog post.

Sony’s media apps, including WALKMAN, Album, and Movies, were also improved, now featuring Sony Entertainment Network cloud service integration. They offer a more intuitive UI, featuring seamless access to both local and cloud content.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean also comes to said devices with Sony’s unique custom interface experience called Xperia Themes, which includes downloadable UI packs from Sony Select.

On top of all these, the new firmware packs the latest Android security enhancements, alongside Sony’s own mobile enterprise solution, namely Xperia in Business.

Sony did not offer specific info on which markets are receiving the update at the moment, but it should deliver such details soon, so stay tuned to learn the news.
