The update has been submitted to carriers for testing

After unveiling its plans to upgrade most of its Android devices to Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012, Motorola pushed back the arrival of the update for several times.

Unfortunately, the company could not deliver a single update on schedule, so Motorola fans are now reluctant to everything that comes from the US-based company, official or not.

Luckily, Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi owners have been blessed with Ice Cream Sandwich, but only those living the United States, and more recently, Canadians.

About ten days ago, Motorola revised its Ice Cream Sandwich rollout schedule and confirmed the devices that wouldn’t be getting an Android 4.0 update.

Although the Ice Cream Sandwich update for XOOM Wi-Fi and 3G was listed as being in Evaluation & Planning stage, it appears that Motorola changed its mind once again.

According to Motorola Australia, Android 4.0 ICS for both XOOM Wi-Fi and 3G tablets has been submitted to all operators across the country. As soon as the testing process is successfully completed, the update will be rolled out OTA (over the air).

We can't see why Motorola would want to send the update for XOOM Wi-Fi to Australian operators for testing purposes given the fact that it's carrier-free.

Anyway, Motorola estimates it will take around two weeks until all carriers are able to test the update, and if no issues are found, there’s a high chance that XOOM Wi-Fi and 3G will be getting their updates starting June 21.

We have an update for all of our Xoom fans. We have now submitted our final round of software to our carrier partners for testing. It will take two weeks for them to test. Provided there are no issues found during the testing, we expect to upgrade Motorola Xoom to Ice Cream Sandwich for both WiFi and 3G users on June 21st.

Even though the information has been confirmed on Motorola’s Facebook page, if any issues are found, the update might get delayed, so stay tuned for more info on the subject.
