Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility has just announced the release of an OS upgrade for its Motorola XOOM devices on the Australian market, none other than the Android 3.2 Honeycomb platform.

The software update has started to arrive on XOOM devices earlier this week, and should be delivered to all of them in about a week or so, Motorola announced.

“We're excited to be able to announce to all of our patient XOOM fans that the Honeycomb 3.2 upgrade over the air push will commence from 2pm (AEDST) this afternoon,” Motorola Australia noted in a post on its Facebook account earlier this week.

“We will be pushing the upgrade in batches so all users should have the upgrade within the week,” the company continues.

Some of the main enhancements that users will be able to benefit from are related to QuickOffice and Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents.

“Key features of the upgrade include the ability to print QuickOffice documents over WiFi to network printers, to access, create and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint docs, enhanced enterprise management and security (3LM) and more,” the company notes.

The new software update is being sent to users over the air, which means that they will be informed on its availability though the notification system on the device.

Of course, users can also choose to perform manual checks to learn whether the Android 3.2 Honeycomb upgrade is available for their XOOMs or not.

Before proceeding with the new software update, users should make sure that the tablet PC packs a fully charged battery inside, so that no issues emerge during the installation process.

They should also consider backing up all of their personal files on the device, including contacts, photos, videos and the like, so that nothing could be lost in case the installation does not go as planned.
