Bringing along some bug fixes

Samsung Behold II, one of the Android-based devices available for purchase in the United States via wireless carrier T-Mobile, has just started to receive a new software update, in the form of Android 1.6. The new solution has been long awaited to arrive on the device, and although pushed back quite a lot, it is now available for enthusiasts.

“In partnership with Samsung, T-Mobile has completed the software build for updating the Behold II to Android 1.6. The deployment of this software has begun and will occur each night from 11pm to 6am PST, from June 21st to June 25th. The deployment may extend a little longer depending on network capacity, however no issues are expected,” the wireless carrier announced via its forums.

The new software solution does not bring forth only the Android 1.6 operating system for Behold II, but it also comes with a series of bug fixes, the company states. Among the issues that should be resolved through it, we can count one that prevented users from searching contacts by last name, one due to which the LCD was flickering/static when unlocking the device, as well as some memory card issues, such as an “Erased” or blank cards, and the “Unsupported File System” error notice when trying to access the memory card.

According to the mobile phone carrier, those users interested in receiving the new software solution on their Samsung Behold II handsets should not have “rooted” devices, with the TouchWiz user interface still running on them (“programs such as 'aHome' bypass TouchWiz,” the company notes). Moreover, the first software update released for the device should be installed for the new one to be received. The battery on the mobile phone should be charged at least at 50% for the installation to start.

As soon as the Android 1.6 OS lands on Behold II, users should be able to enjoy new features and services, including Google Maps Navigation, though other functionalities won't be available, as they are reserved only for handsets powered by Android 2.x.
