The Tunisian desert is about to engulf the set of Mos Espa City

I'm afraid it's sad news for Star Wars fans. Researchers say sand dunes in the Tunisian desert are about to engulf the set of Mos Espa City, the place where Anakin Skywalker, otherwise known as Darth Vader, spent his childhood.

The set was used in the shooting of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. By the looks of it, it will be entirely covered by sand in about a year's time.

Inhabitat explains that the movie set has fallen victim to a sand formation shaped like a crescent.

As the wind blows over it, this sand dune, otherwise known as a barchan, is steadily moving forward, at a rate of some 15 meters (almost 50 feet) per year, the same source details.

Similar sand formations have been documented on Mars and Saturn.

Researchers reassure that, after a while, the movie set will emerge from under the sand. The only problem is that, while being buried, it will probably sustain some damage.
