An old idea in a modern design

That old game with a metal sphere running through a plastic maze is definitely one image some of us will never forget. But as time goes by, things are changing fast and it seems like so do our toys. From the simplest to the most advanced and sophisticated toys, everything gets a new character, pretty much in strong connection to what's actually going on in the industry; and I wouldn't be that surprised if the old-fashioned games and toys became scarce as if they were true antique pieces of technology, with a long-lost aura around them, exerting an almost mystical attraction to the trained eye.

[admark=1]One of the new toys coming from Japan's producer Bandai is the Aqua Drop. “What's so special about this piece of cheap plastic?” you might ask yourselves; well, it's all about nanotechnology. The “nano” prefix stands for dramatic miniaturization of things, whether we're talking about the Sci-Fi nanobots or materials with exceptional properties.

The Bandai Aqua Drop comes with a specially-treated surface that causes water to “hyper-bead”; it's the Adesso WR, a nanotech agent, patented in Japan by Nikka Kagaku Co. Ltd. So, what does the Adesso WR-thingy do? As you insert some water drops inside the Bandai Aqua Drop using the supplied dropper you will see water quickly turning into small beads running amok on the entire surface of the screen.

The purpose of the Bandai Aqua Drop is to gather all the beads together, and by all means it is way harder doing so than speaking about it because the Adesso WR agent sports very reduced friction and the natural tension force of the water creates the most spectacular dynamic effects, making everything quite hard to keep together.

No less than four different Bandai Aqua Drop maze models are available, each with its own rules and difficulty levels and for an $18 price, these aquatic games seem one good deal of geek fun.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
