Since British singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her home last Saturday, her ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, has kept relatively mum on the topic of her death. He’s now speaking, offering, at the same time, an insight into their “unhealthy” relationship.

Many fans and Amy’s family consider Blake responsible for her addiction to heavy drugs, since he is the one who reportedly gave her heroin for the first time.

They also believe Blake broke her heart when he cheated on her, thus pushing her even farther into desperation and, of course, addiction.

The divorce from Blake left her a wounded woman who sought refuge and whatever consolation she could find into drugs and, later on, alcohol.

While he’s not denying this was the case, Blake also points out in a new interview cited by the Daily Mail, that his and Amy’s relationship was unhealthy from the start since they were both addicts.

“We loved each other intensely and probably in a really unhealthy co-dependent way and we probably called it all sorts of things, passionate, fiery and whatever,” Blake says, speaking from prison, where he’s serving a 32-month sentence for burglary.

“You can’t have a relationship and be a heroin addict, you can’t. If you don’t have access to money you’re going out thieving and you’re going to be in jail half the time, it’s not a way to live,” he adds.

He doesn’t own up to giving Amy heavy drugs, but he admits that he was there when she first took heroin, describing her reaction to it like “a duck to water.”

As for the incident in 2007 – the most terrifying in their relationship –, when both were seen walking the streets in Soho covered in blood and scratches, Blake insists they self-harmed but did not attack each other.

“We had a mad argument, we was out of our nuts and I smashed a bottle and took a chunk out of myself,” he says.

“She just looked at me and out of fear or love or whatever it was and, out of some weird sense of loyalty, she did the same thing to herself. I was quite [upset] and I said ‘What the [expletive]’!” Blake recalls.

Their relationship didn’t last much longer after said incident. Amy and Blake were divorced in 2009.
