It’s been fun while it lasted, but the time has come for Mariah Carey to pack up her bags and leave American Idol. According to a new report, producers wouldn’t even wait until the end of the season to kick her out, and are talking with Jennifer Lopez to come back to the show.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that ratings have been taking a dive in recent weeks, with producers worried that the show might fade into obscurity way too soon.

They had counted on Mariah to boost ratings but it hasn’t happened, so they want her out as soon as possible.

They secretly planned to have her replaced with Lopez in mid-season but Mariah found out and threatened to sue.

Producers dropped the plans but are still working on finding replacements for the next season.

“And insiders say a search already has begun to replace Carey, most likely Nicki Minaj and possibly the entire judge’s panel for next season,” THR writes.

A rep for Fox says there isn’t an ounce of truth to the entire story.
