Amazon's Fire Phone was launched on the market back in July and didn't sell very well at all. In fact, many see the smartphone as a blunder, though Amazon knows best why its smartphone wasn't very popular among Android fans.

The smartphone was released on the market with Amazon Fire OS 3.5, a customized operation system based on Android. Since then, the smartphone's price got numerous cuts to make it more appealing to customers.

Anyway, Amazon thought that another thing that could increase Fire Phone's sales would be a major software update. The new Fire OS 4.6.1 update is based on Android 4.4 KitKat, though it's unclear which features and improvements Amazon's customized OS borrows from Google's original platform.

The good news is that the update comes with a changelog attached to it, so we already know what improvements and new features it brings.

Is there a chance for Fire Phone to get an Android 5.0 Lollipop update?

For starters, Fire OS 4.6.1 brings support for Bluetooth LE (Low Energy), as well as additional keyboard options. For example, Amazon's keyboard now has color emoji. Also, users will be able to change the default keyboard on the Fire Phone with another compatible keyboard from the Amazon Appstore.

Furthermore, some messaging improvements have been implemented as well, so users will now be able to delete or forward multiple messages in a conversation, swipe to delete conversations in their inbox, and modify messaging settings with new options.

According to the official changelog, the update also brings enhanced enterprise features, such as support for secure work Wi-Fi network, single sign-on for corporate networks, and AES-256 bit hardware encryption.

The update also has some new video editing features, including the option to convert video clips into lenticular images and set HDR to auto.

Advance calling options brought in the update include the option to manage up to five people on a conference call, as well as the possibility to delete all previous calls in the history. Check out below the full list of changes included in this update.
