It intends to combine a Liquavista screen with its light guide technology

LCDs are everywhere nowadays, because they have bright colors (thanks to the LED backlighting) and fast refresh rates.

If they weren't so expensive compared to e-paper, they would have probably been used in e-readers too, not just tablets and everything bigger than them.

Amazon might release a display type that will strip some of the market share of LCDs away though.

One half of the puzzle is the light guide technology, which gives the e-paper screen of the Kindle Paperwhite its Brightness and contrast.

The other half of the puzzle is the special display technology belonging to Liquavista, a company that Samsung briefly owned before selling it to Amazon.

The Light Guide Technology will give the fast and reflective screen the high contrast and brightness necessary to compete with LCDs.

Presumably, the screen technology would outmatch LCDs and cause less eye fatigue as well. Good for tablets and laptops, and maybe everything else with a screen.
