A new form of content distribution

Amazon launches a service of on-line sales of essays, short-stories, novels and other written papers by American authors, for an amount of 49 cents.

The list of available titles includes names like Danielle Steel and Terry Brooks, among other.

The service started with a package of 64 titles from 59 different authors.

Amazon officials say the company chose this form of distribution because most of the papers are 2.000 to 10.000 words large and they don't justify printing and distribution costs.

Amazon states that nowadays technology allows this method of content distribution, which is much better for both writers and readers.

The users have the possibility to read the text on the Internet, download it in PDF format or receive it by e-mail. Amazon made no comment regarding the revenue they expect from the new service or the percent of the authors.

Introducing this service is a Amazon premiere. The company had nothing to do with downloading services before and this could be a test for a future on-line music store, that might be launched by this year's end.
