Amazon succumbs to the dark side and starts using rather unfortunate tactics

It appears that Amazon was particularly serious about the Kindle Fire being just a means to facilitate sales of its web content, as it has taken to forcing somewhat annoying redirects.

Amazon could be said to be restricting the amount of apps that owners of its Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet have access to.

Being a device featuring the Android operating system, it would be natural for users to have access to the Android Market website.

Unfortunately, Amazon has a hidden utility app called MarketIntentProxy.apk, which makes Amazon detect when people are looking for an app and then forces a redirect to its own AppStore.

This keeps happening even when the Silk browser's proxy server is turned off and pretty much prevents people from getting the app they need or want if the Amazon Appstore doesn't have it.

This is definitely not something we're happy to hear, especially since the only solution around this is to root the device and install the Android Market, or sideload apps via the computer after finding the .apks files elsewhere.
