Following the purchase of Palm, the future of webOS changed a little, and some new info on this just emerged into the wild, pointing towards next year as the most likely launch window for new handsets running under the platform.

The new details on webOS and devices powered by it come from HP's Rahul Sood, founder of Voodoo PC, who says that the next major flavor of the OS would arrive this year.

Of course, this is not something new, since Palm already went official with news on webOS 2.0 headed to the market in 2010, as well as with some info on what the platform version might include.

However, what is new is what Sood has to say on the devices the platform would power.

According to him, the hardware should be highly impressive, and people are expected to jump on devices as soon as they seem them for the first time.

“everyone will want in once the presentation of hardware is in front of them. even the defectors will want to own a webOS device,” Sood stated on Twitter.

The downside, however, is that Palm and HP won't rush to the market with these devices, which means that they won't be released until sometime next year.

“... don't expect anything soon, please stop asking 'when' --- i'd rather be straight with you. these things take time...,” Sood said.

It seem that, in the end, we'll just have to sit back and wait for the first info on these webOS-based devices to emerge into the wild to learn what exactly the maker has in store for users, though it seems that things are already looking as great as they can be.

“I am so excited about webOS and Palm I'm finding it hard to contain my enthusiasm!,” he notes in a post on the Palm Developer Blog, as PreCentral notes in a recent article.

For what it's worth, while both webOS 2.0 and the upcoming devices are shaping up to be highly appealing, Palm and HP do need to speed up the development process and have these devices on shelves faster, for competitive solutions are gaining more ground these days.
