The other day, an attorney for Amanda Bynes and her mother Lynn, who acts as her conservator now, issued a statement to rubbish reports that, throughout 2013, her reckless behavior was caused by bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. The attorney is now stressing that all of Amanda’s problems stemmed from her heavy marijuana use.

Speaking to People magazine, Tamar Arminak says that Amanda was never diagnosed with schizophrenia, despite the fact that there were countless reports at the time claiming this. Then, he adds, she’s now off medication completely and hasn’t smoked pot in almost a year, and she’s doing better than ever.

“Amanda currently is on zero medication. She’s devoted to living her life as healthy as possible. She’s never had a history of abusing alcohol or hard drugs, and she’s proud to say she’s been marijuana-free for the past nine months,” Arminak says.

“Amanda is very happy studying fashion and she hopes to one day design her own line,” he adds. Bynes is now a student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Orange County.

Last year, after a series of incidents with the police and displays of erratic behavior in public and on social media, Amanda was arrested after she tried to set fire to a woman’s driveway, and early burned her own pooch alive. She didn’t spend too much time in custody because she was involuntarily admitted for mental evaluation.

The next weeks, Amanda was placed under psychiatric hold and was later transferred to a hospital. She did not appear in court in any of the pending cases against her, with her attorney informing the judge that she was not fit to understand the proceedings.

As per reports online, while in hospital, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and was put under conservatorship, with her mom taking the reins of her life and making all the decisions, be they personal or professional.

From what Arminak is now saying, at least that part with Amanda being put on medication for her mental disorders is not true. He seems to be implying that all her problems stemmed from her heavy marijuana use.

“Her family is closely involved with her day-to-day life but they try to give her as much autonomy as possible. She’s doing extremely well. Her primary focus is bonding with her family and being a student,” the attorney adds.

A source reveals for the same publication that Amanda, who officially retired from acting before all this began, is also in therapy to try to determine the causes of her erratic behavior.
