Leaked a few months ago, Altek Leo has finally made to the official announcement, which make it the new king camera phones. Produced by digital camera manufacturer Altek, the device comes with Android operating system and an HD-capable 14-megapixel camera

Leo includes a medium sized 3.2-inch WVGA multi-touch capable touchscreen, Wi-Fi connectivity Bluetooth and 3.5G (HSPA/WCDMA) wireless and network protocols, as well as 5.76mbps HSUPA or 7.2mbps HSDPA.

The device runs Google’s Android 2.1 (Eclair) mobile OS, which allows simple access to e-mail, Web browsing, and social media services like Facebook YouTube, and Flickr.

“Memorable moments usually happen when you least expect them,” observed Altek CEO, Alex Hsia.

“You want to be able to capture those precious moments anytime and anywhere, and Leo is the device that lets you do just that.” Hsia added, “Leo is the product of design know-how that comes from years of creating breakthroughs at altek in digital imaging technology, integrated with most advanced Android smartphone system.”

Other key features of the device include built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS support, accelerometer, digital compass, handwriting recognition, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The phone's camera delivers a comparable set of photographic features that start with a 14-megapixel CCD and 3x optical zoom lens.

Leo also shoots crystal clear 720p HD digital video and uses a powerful built-in xenon flash and auto-focus assist lamp in low-light situations.

At the core of Altek’s camera technology is the Sunny 9 digital image processor, the latest chip technology to power Altek’s cameras and smart phones.

Altek plans to release the Leo smartphone on the European contintent, in the beginning of the first quarter of 2011.

For the moment, the company is seeking channel partners in the region as it prepares to bring Leo to market.
