Alpenföhn's first iteration of the Heidi graphics card cooler, which was released all the way back in 2009, proved to be one of the most successful products in the company's history, so the German manufacturer now plans to introduce a new version of the VGA cooler, that is called simply enough the Heidi 2.

The basic design of the Heidi 2 remembers us a bit of its predecessor, as the unit still relies on four copper heatpipes for drawing the heat away from the GPU and into an array of aluminum fins which are topped by a 120mm fan.

This time, however, the design has been refined and the cooler has a much lower profile, while the fin arrangement has been tweaked to better dissipate the heat produced by the GPU.

Judging by the pictures provided, it also seems like Alpenföhn has decided to go with a more traditional base design, which drops the direct contact heatpipes of the original Heidi VGA cooler.

The whole surface of the Heidi 2 is covered by what the company calls a SSNP (Shiny Silver Nickel Plating) finishing.

The cooler is compatible with a wide variety of graphics cards, including future models from AMD and Nvidia, as it comes with interchangeable mounting rails. These support no less than five different hole spacings, ranging from 43mm to 80mm.

Oddly enough, the most recent graphics cards compatible with the Heidi 2 (as listed on the company's website), are the AMD Radeon HD 6850 and HD 6870, and the Nvidia GeForce GTX 560.

In addition to the interchangeable mounting rails, the cooler is also bundled together with the 120mm Boost Wing fan pictured above as well as with a slew of AMD VRM heatsinks.

Alpenföhn has already added the Heidi 2 to its website (link here), but hasn't mentioned any details regarding its pricing and availability. (via HardwareLuxx)
