Eden Studios, the developers of Alone in the Dark, say that they are working on a big patch for the Xbox 360 version of the title with the aim of making the game more playable and less troubled by problems. They also say that the PlayStation 3 version of the game will be heavily re-done so that most of the bugs would no longer be present.

Eden Studios have highlighted some of the changes on the Sony made console, saying that the inventory system in the game would be streamlined while the camera controls, which can be frustrating in some areas, would be reworked for both on-foot and driving sections. The final section of the game will also be cleaned up to add more coherence.

Alone in the Dark was published under the Atari label and it was billed as the game which could turn around the failing fortunes of the company. Much was expected from the game but the initial release is pretty buggy and some of the mechanics are not implemented too well. The survival horror theme of the game works fine and the story is compelling; fixing the bugs will probably draw in some more players.

Eden Studios say that there's no clear timetable for the arrival of the Xbox 360 patch and that the feature list has not been fully constructed yet. If you own the game and play it, you can head to the forums of the developers and show them what can be fixed in their game.

It will be interesting to see whether the PlayStation 3 version of Alone in the Dark will manage to be a coherent and bug free gaming experience or whether it will prove to be the last nail in the coffin of Atari.
