The back panel of Apple’s alleged iPhone 5 is showing up in pictures that are sure to make a swift trip around the world’s technology sites and blogs.

Corroborating earlier rumors of a separated image sensor and LED flash on Apple’s next-generation iPhone, the latest purported leak shows the back panel of an alleged iPhone 5 (or iPhone 4S), with clear evidence that Cupertino is indeed planning to set the two apart.

It is unclear whether the hardware is glass or some other material (or altogether a fake photo).

The picture was discovered by Apple.pro (Google Translate) and reportedly stems from a microblog. Conveniently, its accuracy cannot be verified.

While there has been no actual confirmation that this is the case with the new iPhone, there is strong indication that at least this particularity is accurate.

For a month now, various images depicting the new camera sensor and LED flash have been circling around the web, and lately the entire phone’s design is hinted at.

The latest noteworthy ‘leak’ came from Chinese online retailer Alibaba.com, whose listings for a fifth-generation iPhone 5G case were mysteriously gone one day into their posting.

The images showed a purported next-generation iPhone with the camera and LED flash set apart and, most notably, a larger, edge-to-edge Retina display.

There is also talk that Apple’s new iPhone will have a bigger screen. According to the most recent rumors regarding the phone’s design, said screen will be curved, making the iPhone 5 the first smartphone with a curved touch display.

As usual, we recommend that our readers take this kind of information with a boulder-sized grain of salt.

While Apple.pro has a track record of predicting upcoming iPhone and iPod hardware, the site also had its fair share of bad prognostications.

In the end, only a solid prototype leak will do enough to convince us that Apple’s next handset looks and feels in a certain way, and not another.
