Kate Hudson’s flashes her engagement ring: “Oh, you noticed!” she tells Matt Lauer

Yesterday, while talking to Matt Lauer about her upcoming film, “Something Borrowed,” Kate Hudson dropped the bomb: she and Matthew Bellamy were engaged. The details on the diamond ring are now out.

Kate did not come out with the announcement without being asked. It was Lauer who asked to see her hand, because, he said, he’d noticed something sparkling on it.

And, indeed, it was rather hard not to notice an engagement ring of that size: chunky yet very elegant at the same time, the sparkler is believed to have cost around $200,000, Us Magazine writes.

“Jewelry expert Michael O’Connor tells Us Weekly that Hudson’s platinum-set ring with an emerald-cut diamond and tapered baguettes on the side is approximately nine carats and has an estimated value of a whopping $200,000,” says the publication.

The ring may not look like something that Kate would normally wear, in that her style when she’s not on the red carpet verges on the boho, but it’s a timeless, classic piece.

“While Kate is known for her boho chic style and fun personality, this type of engagement ring style is classic and timeless,” O’Connor says for the same publication.

“The emerald cut stones are typically top quality. They’re usually set in platinum because it’s a naturally white metal and won’t cast any color onto the diamond,” the jeweler adds.

Kate wouldn’t say anything about the ring while she was interviewed by Lauer; in fact, she wouldn’t even say how Matt proposed to her because she believed it was too personal a topic to discuss on television.

“I haven’t really announced it and I felt like the announcing thing feels so silly, and I was just waiting for someone to notice,” Kate said laughing, as we also informed you yesterday.

As for her fiancé: “He’s a beautiful man, and I’m excited,” Kate said.

No wedding date has yet been set but the actress did leave room for the interpretation that they want to wait until the child is born before heading down the aisle.
