Mag EraSURE from Fujitsu

There are quite a lot of organizations around the world working with sensitive, confidential or secret data, which must maintain their status even after the hard-disks on which they've been stored are no longer in use.

And the best way to make sure no one will be able to access the data is to erase them completely, not by formatting the disks, but by using a magnetic degausser. One of the most interesting devices of this type is the Mag EraSURE, which has just been announced by Fujitsu, which has the unique ability to erase all the data on the hard disk in just 60 seconds.

Mag EraSURE wipes clean the storage media by passing them through a very large magnetic field, the data becoming unrecoverable by commercial means after being exposed to the permanent magnet inside the device. Moreover, besides destroying all the data on the storage device (including the calibration data), Mag EraSURE also destroys the read/write heads, thus rendering the respective device completely useless.

The magnetic degausser is quite user friendly, since all the owner has to do is insert the drive inside the Mag EraSURE and press a button, the device taking care of the rest. Also, it's compatible with a wide range of storage devices, among which the most important are the 1.0", 1.8", 2.5", 3.5" (up to 1.6" height) HDDs or the SDLT, DLT, LTO, DAT, TRAVAN, AIT, QIC, 8mm magnetic tapes.

Mag EraSURE is also relatively small (340mm x 605mm x 215mm), thus being quite practical for any office. As I've mentioned before, it's aimed especially at corporations, but it can also be used for other purposes, considering the very short period of time required in order to erase completely some compromising data.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
