Research firm Weekly Reader Research and retailer Game Crazy have partnered up to survey youngsters on what they want to get as gifts when Christmas rolls around in a few months’ time. The not so surprising answer is that most kids with ages between 8 and 17 want to receive videogames and gaming consoles for the holidays.

The Holiday Gift Tracker Survey has been compiled using data from 965 respondents, with 488 boys and 477 girls participating. Only 10% of those surveyed are not interested in getting games and have set their eyes on other gifts.

An impressive 17% of the respondents are set to ask their parents to get them Guitar Hero World Tour from Activision, with a similar number, 15%, hoping for Rock Band II from Harmonix, MTV and Electronic Arts.

Mario Kart Wii and Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party II are also hot properties this Christmas, as 12% and, respectively, 11% of kids are interested in getting them. It's nice to see that most of the games are not hardcore titles and that there's huge appeal for music and dance simulations.

When discriminating by gender, girls are most interested in DDR Hottest Party II, with the game being most popular with girls aged between 11 and 13, while 18% of those 8 to 10 years old are interested in the title and with 15% of those aged 14-17 asking for this dance game.

Guitar Hero World Tour was the most appealing videogame for boys with a level of interest superior to 18%. 14% of respondents are also interested in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

Most of those questioned are owners of a Nintendo Wii; the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation 2 are also very popular consoles. A minority still plays on the Game Boy Advance, while the Xbox 360 is very popular with males aged between 14 and 17.
