CD Projekt RED, the developers of the now released The Witcher 2, have announced that all the downloadable content that they will develop for their role-playing game will be offered for free to gamers, with the first pack arriving on launch day.

As part of a Questions & Answers session conducted over Facebook, the development team announced, “Let me announce that all our DLCs will be FREE. All of them. If anything will be for purchase, those will be expansion packs.”

It's not clear whether fans of the Witcher series should take the above statement as an actual statement of intent about expansions or whether the team will make a decision about adding bigger chunks of content to the game only if it is successful at retail.

There are also rumors that CD Projekt RED is thinking about porting The Witcher 2 to home gaming consoles, but no official announcement was made about that.

The first game was also set to get a console port, with some enhanced gameplay, but development on it was abandoned in order for the developers to focus on the actual sequel.

The first piece of DLC for The Witcher 2 is called Troll Trouble and gamers will be able to download it after they get their hands on the disk or download package for the game.

The team at Projekt RED promises that The Witcher 2 will expand on all the mechanics of the predecessor, with more complex choices to be made during combat, more options linked to how various characters are treated and more characters development for Geralt.

The game also uses a new game engine created in house and it looks spectacular for those who have a powerful enough PC.

Those who have pre ordered The Witcher 2 also get access to a number of extra in game packs, including an Ultimate Swordsman Suit and a Merchant Pack.
