After updating its TweetDeck client, Twitter Inc. has released a brand new version of its original Mac app featuring more visual timelines, a tweet detail pane for each message in part, updated profile views, and more (gallery below).

Twitter 3.0.0 sports a revamped design with much simpler graphics and a tweaked color palette, making it easier to see what’s new, be it a new tweet, an @mention, or a DM.

Timelines are more visual thanks to previews of Twitter photos placed front and center in Tweets. Users simply click to expand the image to full size, while those who prefer not to see image previews can un-tick the option in the preferences.

The tweet detail pane shows the conversation around a tweet, including favorites and retweets.

You no longer have to click “view on twitter.com” to see a user’s profile, as “User profiles now show header photos to display the unique personality of every user,” according to the release notes.

“Learn more about them by seeing who they follow and are followed by, their lists, and their custom timelines,” Twitter Inc. says.

Twitter includes the following list of key features for its updated Twitter 3.0.0 app on the Mac App Store:

“Twitter is the best way to connect, express yourself and discover what’s happening.

Connect with people and your interests to get unfiltered access and unique behind-the-scenes perspectives.

Express yourself with photos, videos and comments.

Discover what's happening. Get real-time stories, pictures, videos, conversations, ideas, and inspiration all in your timeline.”

Twitter has been taking small steps towards this perfected version of its original OS X client app, leaving much space for paid apps like Twitterrific and Echofon.

However, as the official Twitter app gets more relevant, the company is likely going to see a lot more adopters. Download Twitter 3.0.0 for Mac OS X 10.7 or newer.
