Much speculation has been keeping “Ghostbusters” fans on their toes: first, rumor had it that the franchise would be revived, then that it would be rebooted or remade, and then that the third installment would actually launch a new franchise with an all-female cast.

That last rumor turned out to be true: an all-female “Ghostbusters” film is being made. It now has a confirmed cast and release date too, so keep an eye out for it in theaters in the summer of 2016.

The film is directed by Paul Feig, who confirmed the casting reports with just a photo, no caption. None is needed at this point, since The Hollywood Reporter had already broken the news.

So, in 2016, the new ghostbusting team will be formed by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. The film is now in pre-production, with shooting scheduled to take place over the summer in New York, the trade publication says.

Feig has been on board the project since original director Ivan Reitman dropped out when Bill Murray could not give his OK for the revival with the original cast.

Feig has worked before with two of his female ghostbusters, to exceptional results: both McCarthy and Wiig appeared in “Bridesmaids,” so here’s to hoping that this reboot will have been worth all the trouble and expenses.
