This play style reflects Amanda and Ellen Ripley's attitude

Creative Assembly and Sega have confirmed that the upcoming Alien: Isolation experience can be completed without killing anyone, as such a way is quite natural for protagonist Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Alien movie heroine Ellen Ripley.

Alien: Isolation promises to deliver a new type of experience in the series that's focused more on survival and atmosphere than action and defeating the Xenomorph horde.

Instead of having multiple aliens, there will be only one that's crawling around the space station, and players, who'll be guiding Amanda Ripley, will need to ensure that they survive until the bitter end.

During their journey, players will meet other survivors and even enemies, but they can choose not to kill anyone during these encounters.

According to Creative Assembly's Gary Napper, who has talked with GamesTM, the game can be completed without sacrificing the lives of others, as it's mostly a trait of the Ripley family.

"You can get through the entire game without killing someone," he confirms. "It’s something that was, not so much a challenge, but something I felt was what the character would do. We’re talking about a member of the Ripley family – they’re not like characters in games that gun down civilians because they’re in the way to get to the switch."

Napper also pledges that, while the general premise is a simple one of the player against the Xenomorph on the space station, the actual gameplay is quite varied and will deliver all sorts of great moments to keep players hooked on the experience.

"I think the thing we face mostly on this is when we explain the core idea of 'It’s you versus the alien', people go 'that’ll be amazing! But I’m going to be bored after three hours'," Napper says.

"If you can extrapolate from at the beginning having nothing and it’s just you hiding from the alien, to come up to what [we’ve shown so far] – and then extend that out for another while – there’s actually a hell of a lot we do with the game that’s really interesting. And obviously we like to mix it up a bit as well."

Alien: Isolation will feature, besides the adventures of Amanda Ripley, special add-ons that focus on her mother, Ellen Ripley, and her own struggles against the Xenomorphs as seen in the Alien movies. While the expansions are available right now with pre-orders for the game, they will be launched as standalone downloads after launch.
